Spot intel

Parking

Metered street parking along West Cliff Drive and Beach Street. Paid lot at Main Beach a short walk to the east. Car break-ins are regular along West Cliff.

Crowd

Thick year-round. Heavy surf-school presence and a dense longboard lineup. Water runs mid-50s°F — hooded full suits are standard.

Beginner-friendly?

Yes.

Slow, mushy wave shape with a sand-and-cobble bottom and a long shoulder. The catches are the water temperature, the longboard priority traffic, and the proximity to the reef next door — not the wave itself.

Lineup etiquette

At a longboard point, priority extends further back along the shoulder than at a shortboard break. Paddling inside an active takeoff is the standard call-out.

When it's on

West through northwest groundswell with light offshore wind from the north through northeast. Mid-tide window.

When beginners can paddle out

Knee-high to chest-high on a mid or higher tide with light wind. First light runs cleanest before the surf-school groups arrive.
